  • Who are you – in this stage called life? – Portio Dlamini

High Self-esteem and Clear Self Identity are vital in helping one succeed in life Success of any sort begins with knowing Who You Are and where you are going in life! Recently, I started reflecting on the things and values that have shaped my life and identity as a girl child and as a woman. I was raised by a single mother and therefore grew up without a father figure. As a teenager and young adult, I struggled a lot with Insecurity & Fear. It manifested as low self-esteem, timidity, feelings of inadequacy, people pleaser etc. Most of the time I used to see myself as ugly, too tall, too dark, inadequate and I was always trying to fit in and be accepted by friends. As a young working woman, I envied those who were able to lead projects, voice their opinions during meetings and do presentations without fear of being judged or ridiculed. Due to these internal issues, I ended up with serious depression, suicidal thoughts and severe stress at some point in my life. As time went by, I discovered that the major root cause of these issues was lack of fathering. I was in an identity crisis and sought validation from outside sources and could not find it. It was only later in life when I met my current Life-coach and Mentor (who also played a strong role as a father figure) that I began my healing journey of confronting these internal issues one by one. Through his guidance and leadership, I learnt the value of loving and embracing my uniqueness, talents and gifts as a person. While I appreciate the role that my mother played in raising me up, I also began to understand the crucial role that fathers play in their children’s lives i.e. to protect, to love, to compliment, to provide and to give a clear Identity to their children. The Father’s Role: Young girls depend on their fathers for security and emotional support. Fathers, like mothers, are pillars in the development of a child’s emotional well-being. Children look to their fathers to lay down the rules and enforce them. They also look to their fathers to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional. Children want to make their fathers proud, and an involved father promotes inner growth and strength. It has been proven that if a child has a healthy relationship with their father, they tend to have higher levels of self-esteem, confidence, clear self-identity and more stable relationships with men in general. This means that unhealthy relationships with a father figure can significantly impact not only the child's psychological wellbeing, but their unconscious relational choices as they become adults. In short, high self-esteem and clear self-identity are primarily built at home through supportive and loving parents. It was through this new perspective that I began to understand that I am here on earth as a woman not to compete or outshine men, colleagues, or other people. That I am a beautiful human being who is here to discover their lane and run in it. I now know that the strength of any family, community and organization lies in men and women working together to complete and complement one another. To Fathers, dads, husbands, brothers, and uncles, we need you especially in this season – to protect and support us, as we rise up as Girls and Women, taking new roles in society and walking into new territories where we have not trodden before. Together we achieve more! To Girls and Women – You are enough! You are important! Arise and Shine, for your time has Come!

  • Portio Dlamini – Success starts from within

“A man’s gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men (Proverbs 18:16) Have you ever thought that our lives are like building a structure or a house from scratch? Our Beliefs, Thoughts, Values and Actions all form part of the character traits that make up the person that you are and will become. They form a foundation of everything else that You will build in life, including Family, Career, Business etc. Strong buildings are built on a firm and solid foundation that is able to withstand the winds and storms of life. In other words, the stronger the foundation, the stronger the house and the weaker the foundation, the weaker is the house. YOU as a person (including Your Gifts, Beliefs, Thoughts, Desires and Passions) become the foundation of building whatever you desire in life. Before anything is manifested on the outside, the INNER YOU has to form and put it together first in your mind by discovering and working on your gifts and talents and by aligning your beliefs, thoughts, passions, dreams & desires with your Assignment & Vision for your Life. The most important part is to first discover Who You Are and your Assignment or Vision for your life. From then onwards, each person has a responsibility to ensure that all the above character traits are developed correctly so that they can form a strong building block for every area of their life, including their business. Lao tzu says: “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” MY ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY When I went into business full time in 2013, I did not have a bigger picture of what it will take to start and build a sustainable business. All I had was an idea, a desire and a passion to change my life and the life of the Community that I live in. I had been in the Manufacturing Industry for approximately 10 years and had realized for a long time that I was not enthusiastic about what I was doing. There was a place where I could contribute more and make a difference at a much more significant level than in the job that I was in, where I first worked as a Process Engineer and then Production Unit Manager. After much thought, research, preparation and a few years of overcoming my fears, I decided to step out to start a Cleaning & Hygiene business. The plan was to start a company that will empower & transform the lives of Cleaners beyond the cleaning industry so that they do not spend the rest of their lives as cleaners. Mine was to have a business that has an Empowerment Mission attached to it. I thought starting a cleaning company would be easy, after all it is just cleaning. I just saw in my mind that dream of having a business, empowering people, and getting wealthy become a reality, not knowing the amount of courage, determination and hard work that it would take to fulfil it. The first 3 to 4 years in business were extremely tough and intense to a point where I nearly gave up because of the hardships. Yet at the same time, that was a season where my character was shaped and developed strongly, in order to build a strong foundation within me that will be able to sustain the house (my business). I persevered and endured hardships like a soldier until I broke through. It took approximately three full years to break through into the cleaning and hygiene business. Prior to that I was doing a bit of training just to get income and to build my confidence in public speaking. I would not have been able to come this far without the tremendous & consistent support of Mentors/Coaches/Teachers that have been in my life in this journey. These are people who have gone through their own process and path of success and come onto the other side. They now had something to contribute towards my transformation and empowerment as a person. The people and organizations that empowered me tremendously to stay the cause during the preparation & character development stage include: ✓ My Life coach and Mentor Dr Basil Tryon ✓ The Raizcorp Entrepreneurship program and all their coaches ✓ the Sekela Entrepreneurship program sponsored by SA Homeloans ✓ David White who is part of the Sekela and Business Fit programs. Being exposed to this calibre of Visionaries, Coaches and programs helped me immensely in building my inner capacity and to prepare me for the business world. Out of this process emerged a resilient, determined person, with a clear vision & understanding of what they want to achieve in life. It was through their intervention and great exposure to them that I discovered my Calling & Purpose in life and learnt to tap into it by believing that I am capable, I am strong, I am confident, and I was born to make a difference. This type of inner strength has helped me to push through the Barriers that prevent many Small Businesses/Entrepreneurs from breaking through & being profitable and sustainable in business. Most of these battles/barriers had to be dealt and won in my Mind first. This is where they had formed a Stronghold - through negative beliefs and thought patterns that came from how I grew up (upbringing) and from life experiences. Some of the barriers that I had to overcome and that we face as Entrepreneurs include the following: ✓ Timidity and Low Self Esteem – Low opinion of self which is characterized by lack of confidence and feeling badly about oneself. People with low self-esteem often feel unlovable, awkward, or incompetent. They have a fragile sense of self that can easily be wounded by others. Low Self-esteem is rooted in Fear. ✓ Being a Woman in a Male Dominated field – This tormented me for a long time. Not knowing how to behave and penetrate this space without fearing judgement or ridicule from the male counterparts. Penetrating the Industrial sector required me to overcome this fear. This meant developing the courage to stay in the game despite the challenges until I together with those around me adjust and understand the role of Men & Women working together as a Team to achieve more. ✓ Fear of Rejection & Fear of Being Judged – This is usually evident when dealing with potential customers and banking or financial institutions. It also includes fear of being rejected by family members & friends for being different and for taking a risk to leave a secure job to become an entrepreneur. Many never overcome this fear and therefore remain in their comfort zone. It was one of the hardest fears to overcome, but with the assistance of spiritual principles, I was able to overcome this. ✓ Fear of Failure – Fear that one will not make it in life or in business. Fear of taking a high risk in life and stepping into the unknown. ✓ Poverty Mindset – Struggle to see myself succeeding in life because of negative thoughts and beliefs that are always thinking Scarcity, Lack and Insufficiency. This way of thinking patterns is a result of being exposed to these factors most of our lives in our upbringing & hardships. I struggled to see or relate to Abundance, Plenty, Wealth and Riches as part of my Inheritance and portion in life. I did not have a reference point or clear picture in my mind of what Success means, especially success in business as a Woman. ✓ Lack of Access to Market – struggle to secure business and close deals because of lack of opportunities, red tape or inability to sell or market one’s products/services effectively. ✓ Lack of Skills – Lack of the necessary skills to start & run a business. I eventually acquired these through the above-mentioned Entrepreneurship programs. ✓ Lack of Funding – Struggle to access funds to start and run a business efficiently mainly because small businesses are considered as high risk by Financial Institutions. YOU PREPARE FOR SUCCESS Below is a drawing that my Life Coach gave me, to help me understand how to persevere during dry and challenging seasons of Character Development and Preparation. He often says: Success is 90% Preparation and 10 % Opportunity. I therefore learnt that I have to continue to prepare and develop myself UNTIL the opportunity comes. The Preparation & Character Development stage helped me to renew my mind and began to form positive beliefs and thought patterns. I began to think differently about WHO I AM and WHAT I CAN achieve in life. Therefore, it is true that n life You attract Who You are and What You Are on the inside. Once the Inner Man was developed, it was able to form a New Image within me, an image of success and not failure. This inner image works like a magnet and therefore it began to attract opportunities and resources required to fulfil my Dream and Business Vision. For anyone to achieve the impossible, this then becomes a way of life that enables them to do see the invisible and do the impossible. This confirms the following statement from a wise man: “If You raise the inner status of a man then that inner status will eventually transform his outward life” – Dr Basil Tryon

  • DRG and Procorre Global - Benefits of working in the UK

As one of the world’s leading economies, the United Kingdom has long been and continues to be a hub for businesses to expand and access a diverse market. The UK boasts a large talent pool, fantastic support for innovation and technology, and the financial hub of the world in London. SOUTH AFRICAN BUSINESSES EXPANDING INTO THE UK Changes to the British economy, primarily as a result of Brexit, have created a new immigration system in the country. This has created new opportunities for South African business owners to expand into the United Kingdom and live in the country. According to Darren Faife, managing director of business immigration at Sable International “Now, under new rules, senior employees/owners can come to the UK to oversee the start-up of a new branch of a business”. Utilising an Employer of Record like Procorre Global can prove exceptionally useful to expedite this expansion process further. Employer of Record providers can allow businesses to expand their operations without setting up a business entity; they cover taxation and visa requirements, and can even assist with recruitment within the UK, providing access to its diverse talent pool. As a high-performing economy with English as its primary language, it’s no wonder that the UK holds such high appeal for South African businesses looking to expand. Easy access to trade in Ireland and the European Union also enhances the appeal of this unique country. IMPACTS OF COVID-19 Following the COVID-19 pandemic, flexible (or ‘hybrid’) working patterns have been largely adopted by organizations across the country. Most office workers have resorted to working from home for a few days during the week, and other days in the office. The UK Government’s furlough scheme (which ended in September 202), provided financial support for employees who were out of work. Since the end of this scheme, the UK job market has hit a record number of new vacancies, with numerous businesses experiencing unprecedented growth. THE BRITISH ECONOMY – FAST FACTS · In 2020, the UK amassed 6 million private sector businesses · Forbes has reported that there are 126 UK companies with the potential to become ‘unicorn’ businesses · As of 2021, the UK’s corporation tax rate stands at 19%. Lower than most other major European economies including Germany, France and Italy · The British GDP stands at around 2.7 trillion USD as of 2020 Interested in expanding into the UK? DRG Outsourcing is proud to be in partnership with Procorre Global , a UK-based Employer of Record provider. If you’re interested in expanding into the United Kingdom, reach out to us today and we can start mobilising your global expansion journey. Procorre Global and DRG provide Recruitment and Employer of Record services to many South African people who work for companies in other countries and locations around the world. It has become more and more normal for international companies to seek skills and resources in South Africa, where employees are generally considered above the global average for their abilities, experience and commitment. Working remotely is the new norm for most organisations, and this is an exciting consideration for South Africans looking to remain in South Africa, while gaining international experience and opportunities. • Insight into corporate governance

The highly informative first KZN Top Business Masterclass was held on the 8 March 2022 The topic was corporate governance, and the speakers were Cathie Lewis and Clifford Zungu. The session was ably facilitated by David White Drawing on her experience and understanding Cathie provided much insight into corporate governance using King IV as a starting point. The goals of the governing body should be aligned towards achieving the following four governance outcomes: · Ethical culture · Good performance · Effective control · Legitimacy Of importance is understanding how we achieve these outcomes in an imperfect world. Cathie stressed we need leadership, communication between all stakeholders, knowledge of all the dynamics in play and an application of the appropriate legislation. Of significance she emphasised the importance of the organisation’s or company’s role in meeting societal needs first. Clifford emphasised the importance of communication in an organisation both from a top down and bottom up perspective. This ensures that all employees may be heard as well as have a role in articulating the values of a company and ensuring that its outcomes are realised. David stressed the importance of the strong leadership required to ensure that the framework of the King IV Code is applied. To reach the four governance outcomes, governing bodies are required to apply the 17 principles within the Code in a holistic manner. • June Whiteman - Isle of Man Roadshow to South Africa 15th – 24th March 2022

Once described as a “rock in the middle of the Irish Sea” and famous for the TT Motorcycle Races, the Isle of Man is so much more. It is a well-regulated jurisdiction with a sound infrastructure and stable economy and surprisingly, home to many South Africans. The island’s connection with South Africa is an historical one, going back to the late 1800s when Manx miners sought their fortunes further afield in the gold and diamond mines of South Africa. Those early settlers did a good job of selling the Isle of Man and today there is a thriving South African community here who support each other and newcomers, looking to settle on the island. To reinforce those historic bonds, build new relationships and share what the Isle of Man has to offer on both a professional and personal level, The Isle of Man Indaba , will begin its tour of South Africa in Johannesburg on the 15th March. The Isle of Man has a long tradition in financial services, leading in innovation and regulation across a diverse sector encompassing banking, insurance, fiduciaries, funds and wealth management, pensions, and professional services. The Island is home to a wide range of firms and the sector remains an important contributor to the Island’s economy. Building relationships internationally is an important priority and over a period of 10 days, a delegation from Finance Isle of Man and key business representatives, will visit Johannesburg, Durban and the Cape, to promote and develop the Isle of Man’s significant financial and professional services industry and reinforce its recognition as an international financial centre of excellence. The Isle of Man is a beautiful and safe place to live and is the only country in the world that holds Unesco Biosphere status. It is an ancient land of myths and legends, where forgetting to wave a greeting to the faeries as you cross The Fairy Bridge, may cost you dearly and on the hillsides you will see the multi-horned Loaghtan sheep, the Vikings left behind. The pace here is gentle and whatever your interests, you will find your niche. For a small island, we have raised some outstanding sports personalities and the youth are supported to achieve their full potential. The schools are good and conveniently situated all around the island, so wherever you choose to live, your children will have a school nearby. The island is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and with any number of activities to choose from, you are spoilt for choice and all in outstanding surroundings. One of my favourite memories is kayaking off Niarbyl on a summer’s evening. The weather may not be a drawcard, but over the 20 years we’ve been here, it certainly seems milder. Maybe I’m finally acclimatising or perhaps just wearing more appropriate clothing. What I have learnt is not to rely on an umbrella on a windy day! As I write, spring is evident as clumps of daffodils brighten the landscape and the wild garlic begins to appear on the roadside verges. By Easter the bluebells will be in full bloom, turning the woodlands purple, making them just perfect for an Easter Egg hunt. We love the slower pace of life here, but if it’s noise and excitement you’re after, there is always the TT to look forward to. June Whiteman Isle of Man Chapter March 2022
