The Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) has achieved its eleventh consecutive clean audit from the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) for the 2024/2025 financial year, reaffirming its strong governance, accountability and operational excellence. T he clean audit confirms that the Durban ICC’s financial statements were free of material misstatements, with no findings on compliance or internal controls, and no fruitless, wasteful or unauthorised expenditure recorded during the reporting period. Commenting on the outcome, Chief Executive Officer Lindiwe Rakharebe said the achievement reflects the organisation’s long term commitment to responsible stewardship.
“Our clean audit record is not an end in itself. It is a foundation that allows us to innovate, grow sustainably and continue serving as a catalyst for economic development, transformation and global engagement for Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa.” Beyond governance, the Durban ICC continues to deliver significant economic impact. An independent assessment shows the Centre contributed more than R7 billion to South Africa’s GDP in the past financial year, while 12,464 annualised jobs were created or sustained through its activities. Chief Financial Officer Melanie Rambally described the eleventh clean audit as a major milestone. “It reflects the dedication, professionalism and integrity of our Board, management and employees, and affirms that strong governance and accountability are deeply embedded in how the Durban ICC operates.”
Board Chairperson Dr Bophela highlighted the strategic value of consistent audit outcomes, saying: “Consistent clean audit outcomes provide assurance to our shareholder, stakeholders and the public that the Durban ICC is governed with diligence and foresight. This strong governance foundation enables the organisation to pursue strategic growth, attract global events and continue delivering socio economic benefits at scale.” The audit achievement coincides with a year of significant recognition, including being named Africa’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre at the World Travel Awards for the 20th time, securing Green Star certification, retaining Africa’s Travel Indaba in Durban for a further five years, and being awarded a World Trade Centre licence.
With a strong pipeline of upcoming national and international events, the Durban ICC remains well positioned to drive inclusive economic growth, job creation and destination competitiveness as a wholly owned municipal entity of the eThekwini Municipality.
