ETHEKWINI WELCOMES THE WORLD TO THE JONSSON WORKWEAR DURBAN

The City is proud to welcome players, visitors, and spectators to the Jonsson Workwear Durban Open which starts tomorrow, 19 February.
This prestigious tournament, which ends on 22 February, once again places Durban firmly in the spotlight as a premier sports and lifestyle destination.
Featuring a strong field of leading local and international golfers, the championship is expected to attract significant global attention over the four days of competition, further enhancing the City’s international profile.
As with all major sporting events, golf serves as a powerful economic catalyst, stimulating tourism, supporting local businesses, and showcasing Durban’s world-class facilities and hospitality to a worldwide audience.
The City is fully prepared to host what promises to be a phenomenal tournament and extends its best wishes to all players competing for the 2026 title.
eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba reaffirmed the importance of hosting premier sporting events as part of broader efforts to restore confidence among investors, residents, and stakeholders.
He emphasised the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to attracting investment into the City and revitalising key precincts within the city centre.
Mayor Xaba further highlighted the need for collective responsibility in maintaining public spaces, noting that proactive management and care are essential to prevent neglect and unlawful occupation.
Chief Executive Officer of Jonsson Workwear, Nick Jonsson, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working in partnership with the Municipality to support the ongoing revival and growth of eThekwini.
The City invites all golf enthusiasts to attend and enjoy the tournament.
